Andy: Hey, Welcome to the big show with Hammy and the Derp on SNC live in the afternoon and for one day only our new guest presenter crazy Dave!!! So Dave tell us a bit about yourself!!

Dave: Thanks for that Hammy its great to be here!!! Well I am here as a up and coming DJ, I mostly am in the clubs but I’m just about to release my new CD of mixes of some brand new songs that have just been released.

Evaluation

This demo was easily the most enjoyable to create. For this demo we only had a running order to work with to know which songs were coming up next and then we just produced some very random unscripted speech sections which would hopefully appeal the the Breakfast audience it was aimed at. The good thing about it being unscripted was the way it flowed so well compared to my other demos. We were also able to come away with much more speech than I needed so I was able to cut out the 'best' bits from a range of material. If I really cannot think of anything that I would like to change about this particular demo as I think it turned out very well, possibly the best out of the 5.

Evaluation

I enjoyed doing the ICR show, mostly because we did I unscripted and generally had a laugh doing it. The research for this demo was quite hard because I couldn't find very many 'talk shows' on ICR at first and had to wait until someone released one but once I found an example it was easy to see what I had to do to adapt it into my own style. If I could redo this demo, I would possibly lightly script the talk so I could easily relate to it if I was stuck with what to say. I think this show went well, however my guests caused me to redo the talk a few times because of general messing around and such.

Evaluation

The ASDA demo was probably one of the easiest out of the 5 we were tasked to do. This was mainly because it has a distinct 90 - 10 split of Music to Speech respectibly and all speech is just advertisments for things within the store. It was also easy to listen to the show and find adverts which could be used in the show. Overall it was the most boring to do because there wasn't alot of personality you could put into it and I think it shows when listening back to it. If I could go back and do it again I would attempt to make it flow better and possibly try and sound more excited about the superbly awesome once in a life time deals I'm telling the customers about. Another factor is that the sound wasn't of great quality and there was some background noise which could of been avoided by using the Radio studio rather than and MP3 recorder.

Evaluation

I enjoyed this radio show. I found it hard at first to think of what to say, due to me being on my own on the show but after researching a few Radio Suffolk presenters and their style of presenting I was able to easily adapt my own which I could use to hopefully create an authentic Radio Suffolk style show. I found the actual recording of the show quite challenging, not only because of the software but because of having to record myself on my own too. I have found that I work better in a group environment, but this may change if I choose to be a solo presenter and gain more experiance in the field if I take on any out of college radio work. If I was to do this demo again I would of probably scripted it less, as by scripting it fully it didn't flow as well as it could have and it sounded quite obviously like I was reading from a script rather than talking naturally.

In Store Radio

It has become increasingly popular to have an in store radio in various well known stores. ASDA is one of the more obvious stores which use in store radio. A station that provides radio for many stores is Headland Media. A list of its clients consists of House of Fraser, ASDA FM, Costcutter, Topps Tiles, Carpet Right, Dunelm Mill, Harry Ramsden’s and quite a few others.

In Store radios mainly have a 90-10 ratio of Music and Speech respectively, with all speech being advertisment based. Music is usually songs that are for sale instore or are appropriate for the store's customers.

Internet Radio Research

Internet Radio has become very popular in the recent years due to the success of the Internet in general, as well as the fast connections which make streaming radio available and freely accessible. Internet radio can either be delivered by the means of 'Podcasting' or 'Streaming'. Podcasting involves uploading a prerecorded show to the internet and sharing it via download on either the producer's website or iTunes. Streaming is usually live and involves listeners connecting to the presenters website and listening live. This is the medium which is most like traditional radio.

Internet radio stations have become a medium for listeners who consider their particular music interest to be lacking a niche in their local radio. Through internet radio they are able to listen to or even broadcast a show which caters to their particular interest.

Internet radio stations are usually devoid of advertisements due to no running costs. However, there are stations which play adverts to earn an income rather than to pay for running costs due to presenters being able to broadcast with relatively cheap and easy to obtain equipment that is readily available. Internet Radio also requires no formal training, so its usually a medium for aspiring presenters to get into the industry.

An example of an Internet Radio host would be Last.fm where people can upload their own playlists and radio stations for people to listen to live or prerecorded.

Community Radio Research

Community radio is radio broadcast in a reletively local area, usually a town of large village which is there to be a more community based radio compared to the other more widespread commercial radio stations which usually supply radio to a large part of a county. Community radio stations are usually run but a handful of paid workers who maintain the station while most if not all of the presenters are usually volunteers.

Community radio stations are mainly used to supply radio around the community of a town, hence the name, and are used by many aspireing Radio presenters who wish to get into the industry but need a springboard with which to do so. To get a slot on community radio, would be presenters whos show ideas have been accepted by the station usually go through a short training course in order to prepare them for broadcasting.

There are a wide range of presenters and shows on community radio stations which allows the station to cater to a wide variety of listeners, as most shows are specialist shows which play a particular genre of music. Ipswich Community Radio is one such station which is there to provide these kinds of services to people all accross the Ipswich area.
